BISMARCK – First- to third-grade educators in the state are invited to apply for worm soil conservation kits, provided by the North Dakota Department of Agriculture and the North Dakota Ag in the Classroom Program. The kits will provide students with the opportunity to learn about worms and their role in soil health and helping plants grow.

“I encourage educators to take advantage of this opportunity to embed agriculture into their classrooms,” Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring said. “Teachers and students will get insight into the world of worms and learn about the vital role they play in keeping soil healthy.”

Kits will include age-appropriate lesson plans from the National Ag in the Classroom Matrix that relate to the importance of soil health, a worm farm kit and a related book. Educators have until April 1, 2026, to incorporate the kit and lesson plans into their curriculum. Follow-up surveys will be sent out in late April 2026.

There are a limited number of kits available on a first-come, first-served basis. Kits are limited to one per classroom. Applications close Nov. 14, 2025, and are available at https://www.ndda.nd.gov/AITCresources.
