BISMARCK – Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring has announced North Dakota Agricultural Products Utilization Commission (APUC) awards for six projects. The requests totaling $511,298 were approved at the APUC quarterly meeting Feb. 18 in Bismarck.

APUC is a program of the North Dakota Department of Agriculture that administers grant programs for research and development of new and expanded uses for North Dakota agricultural products. The grants can be used for basic and applied research, marketing and utilization, farm diversification, nature-based agritourism, prototype and technology and technical assistance.

The following requests received approval:

AIC Energy Corporation was awarded $212,000 to assist in developing a state of the art biorefinery for sustainable aviation fuel. Contact John Melk at 702-508-1909.

Burnt Creek Events was awarded $88,125 to incorporate a cidery and U-Pick orchard into a historic farmstead for a nature-based tourism experience. Contact David Lehman at 701-400-4495.

CoJack Snack and Pack LLC was awarded $100,000 to implement a marketing plan and app to promote their products. Contact Patric Traynor Jr. at 701-662-1908.

My Joy Bakery LLC was awarded $15,000 to hire a consulting firm to perform business planning and launch a commercial bakery operation. Contact Prince Owusu at 701-426-5635.

North Dakota State University Department of Agriculture and Biosystems Engineering was awarded $53,753 to research the use of UAVs to plant cover crop seeds. Contact John Nowatzki at 701-261-9842.

The University of North Dakota Department of Mechanical Engineering was awarded $42,420 to design and develop biofoams for functional applications. Contact Surojit Gupta at 701-777-1632.

APUC will hold its next grant application hearing on May 19-20, 2021, in Minot. Applications for the May meeting must be received by April 1, 2021. Prototype and technical assistance applications must be received by June 1 for the July 27-28, 2021, meeting.
