Applicants sought for butterfly pollinator kits

BISMARCK – First- to third-grade educators in the state are invited to apply for butterfly pollinator kits, provided by the North Dakota Department of Agriculture and the North Dakota Ag in the Classroom Program. The kits will provide students with the opportunity to watch a live butterfly through each stage of its life.
Goehring awards more than $2.5 million in specialty crop block grants

BISMARCK – Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring has awarded 15 grants totaling over $2.5 million to promote the development, cultivation, production and sales of specialty crops in North Dakota.
Palmer amaranth found in Adams County

BISMARCK – Palmer amaranth (Amaranthus palmeri) has been confirmed in Adams County. A producer noticed suspect plants while mowing along the edge of a field and reported them to an NDSU weed science research specialist. Samples were taken and submitted for DNA analysis to the National Agricultural Genotyping Center, where it was confirmed as Palmer amaranth.
