BISMARCK, N.D. – The North Dakota State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory has confirmed the presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a commercial turkey and chicken flock in Ransom County, North Dakota. The detection extends the suspension of poultry/bird events in Ransom and the adjoining counties of Barnes, Cass and Richland, which were currently under suspension from a late August finding in Cass County. Adjoining counties newly under suspension due to the Ransom County finding are Sargent, Dickey and LaMoure. Additional counties still under suspension from earlier findings include Traill, Steele, McLean, McHenry, Ward, Mountrail, Renville and Burke.

Counties still under suspension from the Cass County finding at the end of August include Cass, Traill, Steele, Barnes, Ransom and Richland.

BISMARCK – Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring applauded Bismarck State College (BSC) as they embark on a new project to expand career pathways. BSC was recently awarded a $1.6 million grant by the U.S. Department of Labor to expand educational opportunities in manufacturing and healthcare.

The Agriculture Diversification and Development fund committee will meet at 8:00 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 15, via conference call.

BISMARCK, N.D. – The North Dakota State Board of Animal Health met yesterday and amended the statewide suspension of poultry/bird events. Effective immediately, following the detection of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), comingling events such as poultry and bird shows, sales and swaps are prohibited in the affected county and adjoining counties.

BISMARCK – Palmer amaranth (Amaranthus palmeri) has been confirmed in Hettinger County. The finding consisted of several plants, and it appears the seeds came from a custom harvest crew from the previous year. It was confirmed as Palmer amaranth by the National Agricultural Genotyping Center. The producer reported the suspect plants, which were then removed and destroyed.

BISMARCK – Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring said that applications are now being accepted for reimbursement of organic certification costs through the Organic Certification Cost Share Program for fiscal year 2022.

BISMARCK – Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring has awarded 21 grants totaling over $3 million to promote the development, cultivation, production and sales of specialty crops in North Dakota.

BISMARCK – The North Dakota Department of Agriculture (NDDA) received a $100,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to improve access to local foods in schools by developing a stronger and more sustainable Farm to School program in the state.
