An agriculturally literate person is defined as someone who understands and can communicate the source and value of agriculture as it affects our quality of life.

Agriculture in the Classroom (AITC) programs seek to improve student achievement by applying authentic, agricultural-based content as the context to teach core curriculum concepts in science, social studies, language arts and nutrition. By encouraging teachers to embed agriculture into their classroom, AITC cultivates.
Partnership
North Dakota Agriculture in the Classroom has a long-standing working relationship with the state's agriculture and education communities. The North Dakota Agriculture in the Classroom program is administered by the North Dakota Department of Agriculture. The agriculture commissioner appoints an advisory council to oversee the program and to ensure that projects/programs funded as part of Agriculture in the Classroom fit the overall mission.
The Agriculture in the Classroom council consists of seven individuals, including six appointed council members and the superintendent of public instruction or the superintendent's designee.
The mission of Agriculture in the Classroom is to develop and conduct programs for K-12 agriculture education, and the training of teachers and students in agricultural curriculum activities.
Funding for Agriculture in the Classroom is included in the Agriculture Commissioner's budget. It includes approximately $105,000 per biennium to develop and conduct programs for K-12 agriculture education.
