BISMARCK – First- to third-grade educators in the state are invited to apply for butterfly pollinator kits, provided by the North Dakota Department of Agriculture and the North Dakota Ag in the Classroom Program. The kits will provide students with the opportunity to watch a live butterfly through each stage of its life.

BISMARCK – Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring has awarded 15 grants totaling over $2.5 million to promote the development, cultivation, production and sales of specialty crops in North Dakota.

BISMARCK – Palmer amaranth (Amaranthus palmeri) has been confirmed in Adams County. A producer noticed suspect plants while mowing along the edge of a field and reported them to an NDSU weed science research specialist. Samples were taken and submitted for DNA analysis to the National Agricultural Genotyping Center, where it was confirmed as Palmer amaranth.

Bismarck, ND – North Dakota’s state veterinarian says the state’s second reported case of anthrax this year is a reminder to livestock producers to take action to protect their animals from the disease, especially in areas with a history of the disease. Anthrax was confirmed Thursday in a beef cattle herd in Stark County by the North Dakota State University Veterinary Diagnostic Lab.

BISMARCK – The North Dakota Department of Agriculture (NDDA) is encouraging groups to participate in the Mountain Plains Crunch Off in celebration of Farm to School Month in October. North Dakota is competing with six other states to see which state can get the most “crunches” into a piece of local produce or other minimally processed local food, per capita. Last year, over 80,000 North Dakotans joined the Crunch Off alongside thousands of participants across the greater Mountain Plains region.
